Together Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

We present a challenge for partners in committed relationships who are fans of scary movies: Get comfortable with your significant other and watch Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its streaming debut via Hulu. Outwardly, it might appear like standard physical horror, but inside Together exists a profound contemplation about how we choose to love each other.

An Introductory Film Delving into Relationship Dynamics

Together is the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It showcases actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Tim and Millie, partners that have stayed together for a decade. Having wed in actuality in 2017, the two stars infuse a unique chemistry to their roles, skillfully embodying both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The story begins when Millie and Tim transition from the metropolis to the country for professional reasons. A familiar story element, of course, but that’s largely where the tropes cease. Together becomes as much a psychological exploration of the partnership as it is a body horror flick.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While trekking near their new home, a tempest descends, and the protagonists fall into an underground cave. After spending the night there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity begins influencing the duo. This force induces a paranormal intimacy between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The whole movie is a slow burn fright fest, weaving in bits of fever-dream horrors, gross (but not excessively graphic) biological grotesqueries, and authentically humorous exchanges (sometimes during something disturbing). Shanks orchestrates these parts neatly and delivers them in a consistently growing aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A large part of Together is exclusively Brie and Franco, and they skillfully illustrate manifold depths to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie's sense of self and sense of connection is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his reluctance to pursue anything but his failing musical ambitions slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand feels trapped and cut off by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve relocated rural and far away from his support system. He fears the concept of utterly sacrificing his sense of self in Millie. This fear is further exacerbated by the reality he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for transportation.

Shanks’ smartest move is that he never makes Tim or Millie the definite antagonist.

Tim and Millie confront the sort of issues that come with any relationship a decade in. Fundamentally, they have affection for one another. They share moments of joy, offer support, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their bond.

Allegory and Meaning

While the otherworldly presence in Together represent these anxieties of excessive reliance and giving oneself over to a partner, the metaphor does not come across as clumsy or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments offer a ideal counterpart to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama work together in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s final act, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the film’s ultimate message about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that those not in relationships have understood the narrative as a powerful case for remaining unattached. Conversely, some couples having disagreements found that the film actually helped them reconcile.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own reaction could act as a telling indicator of how you think about commitment. Will the finale sow a sense of discomfort and fear, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and yell at the screen, or simply turn to your partner and state, “We could get through that together”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an test you can experience today.

Together is streaming on the streaming service Hulu now.
