Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a challenging period, managing just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in especial - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-term coach Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually improved in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden title since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface after March of the previous year.

The win also signifies the Russian has won 21 titles at 21 distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is particularly special," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's retrieving approach and recurring reactions on the tennis court had led some to question if his ability to compete at the top level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play aggressively, backed up by an better serving game.

He came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour title, took control to force a third set.

He defended four early opportunities in a close final set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the title with a shot at the net area, with his opponent incapable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
