A person who laced treats with sleeping medication and provided them to youngsters at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two young males both nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight youngsters and a grown-up experienced illness at the facility in July.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit one particular crime he was charged with, which was involving a young boy.
Ruben was kept in jail ahead of a subsequent court date on 28 November.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, outlined the defendant's actions to the court.
She explained his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer camp which he ran.
Ruben engaged in a "treat game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel explained, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the young males "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had suspicions in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "Recently" his stepson had concerns about the situation, justifiably.
"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."
The legal counsel stated objects including baby oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were found, and his family member notified the police about his suspicions.
She stated the man went on to conduct the "sweet game" with six boys that evening - that Saturday - and they were all sick the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that stage," she added.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the situation.
Mrs Prior said the children were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the family member notified the authorities once more.
She said Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five children.
